At least they made good on one promise.
Herrill Lanes/Bowl 360 New Hyde Park began installing their newly-arrived string pinsetters last week and plans on having the entire center completed in time for the upcoming September season. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like they'll have many leagues.
Owner Danny Mohabir had planned on having the first 8 pinsetters installed by July 1, however delays pushed back the initial timeline. Due to this, as reported by several current members of summer leagues at the center, the past few weeks has seen the center overrun by filthy conditions, poorly run operations and a basic disregard for league bowlers. As shown in the photos below (obtained by a bowler in one of the leagues), gum has become commonplace on the lanes, the place is littered with food particles and crumbs and the string pinsetter boxes are being housed right in front of the lanes until installation is complete.
Mohabir had initially promised that leagues would be welcome back at the center and while they still are welcome, basically every single one has already decided to part ways with the center due to the poor conditions.
But hey, if you want to check out the new string pinsetters via open bowling, it seems you can now. The promises may have been kept, but the concept was flawed. It seems, for now, Herrill Lanes of yesteryear is no more and the new era of open bowling is being ushered in, to no one's surprise.
